Like an agate split in half. A hard exterior with something completely unexpected held inside. This piece told me how I was presenting myself to other people. I held relationships at a distance, hoping that this callused shell would scare people away.

I wasn’t afraid of relationship, in fact I yearned for it. I desired the closeness that I believe every human wants. However, I thought what was on the inside, the thoughts, dreams and emotions, were only safe if they were tied to this “structurally sound” caricature of a rock I called a “personality”.
